Society of American Fight Directors The Society of American Fight Directors is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting safety and fostering excellence in the art of directing staged combat/theatrical violence. The SAFD has established and maintains high standards of training and education. Qualified members are granted certification to teach stage combat. Rogue Steel Rogue Steel provides quality stage combat weapons designed for safety and durability for use in theater, film and the classroom. Matter Dance Company Matter Dance Company was founded by Carisa Barreca, Gail Adduci and Jessica Hoversen, who have been collaborating for many years, performing together throughout the Midwest including Chicago and Milwaukee. Their work has been featured in Dance Chicago, Around the Coyote Festival, Open House Dance Collective and Collaborations. Matter Dance Company believes dance should be created for the audience as well as the dancers. Using observation to fuel their dance liberates them to create outside of the box. Brian Plocharczyck Brian works in the world of stage and film violence. Using his training from the Society of American Fight Directors and The International Stunt School, Brian is a visceral and engaging Actor/Combatant and an emerging stunt performer and fight choreographer. Part of his success in this area is due to his physical skills as a second degree black belt in Shotokan Karate; he has been teaching karate for the last twelve years. Babes With Blades A diverse ensemble of artists working together to expand opportunities for women in the world of stage combat. Through the exploration of historical violence as a storytelling tool and a means to entertain, educate, and enlighten, the company aims to challenge traditional expectations, push personal limitations, and celebrate the historical role of the woman warrior and her modern evolution. The mission of R & D Choreography is to improve the power and effectiveness of Chicago theatre at its most visceral level through the art of violence design. We will educate new audiences, train actors, and bring organic, true, and responsible violence designs to theatres so that the power of the stories that are presented on Chicago stages can be heightened to their full potential.
